Four US locales pause data-center builds in one week; Google, Amazon projects exempt
BenBajarin · x · 2026-09-16
- Between Sept 8–14, four locales approved data-center pauses: Statesville NC (180 days), Lima OH (18 months), Gilroy CA (45 days initially), and Lake County IL (8 months in unincorporated areas).
- Google's Lima build and Amazon's approved Gilroy site are exempt; new applicants must wait.
- Ben Bajarin notes approvals require federal, state AND county sign-off — local approval remains a bottleneck, raising the relative value of sites with approvals and secured power.
