Richard Socher argues there is no realistic scenario where AI wipes out all of humanity. Having talked to many AI safety experts, he finds some are essentially phenomenal sci-fi authors; real researchers point to genuine, likely harms he takes seriously. But whenever he asks for an actual detailed extinction scenario, he gets "look at current progress and use your imagination" — no science, no scenario planning, just hand-waved probabilities from gut feelings. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence."
