MIT & Google study: AI saves scientists ~7 hours a week, new bottlenecks emerge

A joint MIT & Google study (part of Google's AI & Economy ATLAS project) finds AI is already reshaping scientific research. Scientists use LLMs and specialized AI models for different tasks, saving about 7 hours a week, and reinvest much of that time into research itself — but new bottlenecks are emerging.
