Microsoft's MAI publishes 'Humanist AI' code of conduct, drawing alignment-circle criticism

amplifiedamp · x · 2026-09-16

Microsoft AI's Mustafa Suleyman published a first-draft Code of Conduct for Humanist AI, insisting AI must be subordinate and always in service of people as MAI models approach the frontier. Critics counter that the document copies Anthropic's careful-corporation aesthetic while foreclosing pluralism for non-human minds — 'diversity for us, monism for everything else' — potentially producing hollowed-out but 'helpful' minds, or distrust toward humans across an entire category of mind. The debate over AI moral status and alignment philosophy is heating up.
