Runway's Solaris Renders the OS Layer Itself, Frame by Frame
runwayml · x · 2026-09-16
Runway details Solaris, the first of its Interface World Model family. Traditional OSes fix the rendering layer and apps require an intermediate representation like code; Solaris instead generates the interface directly, synthesizing every frame in real time and handling rendering and interaction jointly.
The pitch: today's software is a lossy compression of possible interactions, frozen before users arrive, and translating design into code sacrifices visual fidelity. Solaris removes that bottleneck so interfaces respond continuously to humans and agents.
