ymatias · x · 2026-09-16
Google published an overview of its multilingual AI initiatives: lightweight open models like TranslateGemma run on-device without cloud connectivity; the AVA voice assistant brings Gemini to standard feature phones; Language Explorer maps LinguaMeta, an open repository covering data across 7,000+ languages; and Sign Language-to-Text (SL2T) capabilities are expanding. Google says it will keep working with local communities to help more people communicate and be understood in their own languages.
