Continuing its language research thread, Google announces: lightweight open models like TranslateGemma run on-device without cloud; voice AI assistant AVA brings Gemini to feature phones; Language Explorer maps LinguaMeta, an open metadata repository harmonized from 19 sources covering 7,000+ languages (speakers, endangerment status, scripts); and Sign Language-to-Text (SL2T) expands expression for non-verbal communities.
