China leads US in consumer AI adoption; Amodei urges keeping chip export curbs

An SCMP report argues that while the US leads in frontier AI, China is beating it in consumer AI adoption thanks to super apps distributing services tailored to local habits. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei responded that a Chinese lead in AI would pose a 'grave danger' to the US and the world, calling on Washington to maintain export restrictions on advanced chips and chipmaking equipment to China.
