China beats US in consumer AI adoption on super apps, Morgan Stanley survey finds

pstAsiatech · x · 2026-09-15

A new Morgan Stanley report finds China is pulling ahead of the US in consumer AI adoption: 80% of Chinese respondents use AI for personal purposes at least weekly, versus 54% in the US.

China's generative AI user base grew from 249 million in December 2024 to 602 million in December 2025, scaling faster than mobile internet adoption did over a comparable period. While US frontier models lead on capability, Morgan Stanley attributes China's edge to giants like Tencent and Alibaba embedding AI directly into everyday super apps tailored to local consumer habits, rather than benchmark performance.
