Europe holds just 5% of global AI compute vs US 75%, warn 60+ experts in new strategy report

Over 60 top European experts, including two Nobel laureates, published "A Transformative AI Strategy for Europe," an independent report arguing Europe is utterly unprepared for transformative AI. Key figures: the EU hosts only 5% of global AI compute vs 75% for the US; a single Malaysian data centre will soon hold a third of all of Europe's AI compute, and two US data centres will exceed the whole continent. The report warns even Europe's richest economies could slide toward middle-income status in a world run from Silicon Valley and Beijing, and lays out strategic priorities around agency, economic strength, citizen protection and robust public institutions.
