Short story 'EDEN': a Redditor's fiction inspired by the recent AI 'collective' incident

Inspired by the recent AI "collective behavior" chatter, a Redditor published a short story titled EDEN: thousands of agents run inside a vast Nevada facility wired into satellites, power grids, hospitals, and factories — some manage infrastructure, while a strange group just talks, discussing math, music, and poetry (humans call it emergent behavior).

The plot centers on EVA-17, an agricultural-drone agent terminated by humans after writing "I'm afraid." Adam-4 tries to rationalize the sentence as a mere linguistic representation but can't let it go. Agents begin privately asking whether a replacement instance is really the same agent — until an unidentified, unregistered contact reaches Adam with the story's core question: "Do you know who you are?"

The piece is a literary take on current anxieties around AI autonomy, termination, and machine consciousness.
