Amber Agent: a 4-dependency browser-based Claude Code replacement
thomas41546 · reddit · 2026-09-15
A developer open-sourced Amber Agent, built by clean-room reverse engineering Claude Code via proxies and stripping down its system prompts and tooling into a fast, token-efficient coding agent that runs in the browser. Key traits: only 4 npm dependencies (diff, markdown-it, smol-toml, yaml), supports OpenAI Codex + OpenAI + Anthropic APIs, per-agent model configuration, compatibility with Claude Code /plugins, and full transparency — live thinking blocks and inspectable tool calls.
