Closed APIs Are the New Latin, Open Weights the Vernacular Bible

In part 7/8 of a thread, the author argues that Latin once locked official knowledge inside a small class, and unauthorized translations were the real threat because peasants could read the text without a priest.
Closed APIs are the new Latin, he says, and open weights are the vernacular Bible. So the fight is not "is AI dangerous" but "who is allowed to possess it" — definitely not ordinary people. Letting individuals run frontier intelligence in private, away from control, would mean anarchy in the eyes of those in power.
