Altman pledges OpenAI will slow down on purpose; critics note safety cases are unverifiable

Sam Altman laid out two failure modes for AI — losing control to AI, and power concentrating in one lab or country — saying OpenAI now writes a safety case before frontier training runs expected to produce big capability jumps, and that pacing is worth the cost. Quoting author alexverem pushes back: safety cases are written and read only inside the company, "pacing" has no unit, and the lab warning about concentrated power is the one closest to having it. Nothing in the thread is externally checkable.
