UW Professor Uses AI Tool AutoDiscovery to Teach Scientific Inquiry

allen_ai · x · 2026-09-15

Luna Yue Huang, a UW professor, designed a course challenge around AutoDiscovery, an AI scientific discovery tool, to let students experience AI collaboration built on scientific inquiry rather than task completion.

AutoDiscovery surfaced plausible patterns in some datasets students chose, but struggled with others. Students had to determine whether weak results reflected the tool's limitations, data problems, or how the research questions were framed.
