Clarifying: not writing exposition, but incentivizing people to understand it
littmath · x · 2026-09-15
In a follow-up to his essay on adapting the math profession to AI, littmath clarifies he is NOT advocating that people focus on writing exposition — he expects the vast majority of written material will be produced by AI. Rather, mathematicians should act in ways that incentivize people to try to understand exposition, which (in his experience) involves developing research groups, giving talks, etc., since motivation and direction-setting are institutional functions that will remain primarily human.
