Claude Mods: Anthropic to ship function hooks-based plugins for Claude Code in weeks
bcherny · x · 2026-09-15
- Anthropic shared a community update on Claude Code's GitHub: the "function hooks" feature will officially ship as Claude Mods within weeks, not months. A mod is simply a plugin built on function hooks; the underlying primitive stays the same.
- Source listings for the first three built-in mods are already available for preview, semantics are largely settled, and fewer breaking changes are expected.
- The community has already built a Tetris game inside Claude using Mods; Anthropic claims hooks make plugins 10x more powerful.
