WIRED reports the Manhattan DA's office has seized 12 domains used to share and sell celebrity deepfake videos—the largest legal action against harmful deepfake sites to date. Around 1,200 victims, overwhelmingly women including influencers, actors, athletes and politicians, were depicted in nonconsensual sexual content. DA Alvin Bragg said the violations take an immense toll on victims' careers and well-being; investigations into operators and uploaders are ongoing. It's the most sweeping action since deepfakes emerged in late 2017.
