The author argues the inbox was always a protocol managed by human attention—spam filters and smart sorting were early 'agents'—and action-taking agents will take it further on both inbound and outbound sides.

The author's wife banned agent-to-agent coordination between their Instincts after too many requests piled up—a new social norm being invented.
