Following his induction heads thread, gordicaleksa notes that the copy operation seems fundamental to both life (Dawkins' replicators) and intelligence.
His tentative thesis: once you have a copy operation, stable states (memory), and stochasticity, you already hold the basic ingredients to kick off both evolution and an intelligence revolution — with induction heads' "[A] → copy successor" mechanism as intelligence's embodiment of copying. An open-ended thought linking mechinterp to evolutionary theory.
