David Deutsch: ChatGPT fixed his dishwasher, and GDP can't see the wealth it created

Oxford physicist David Deutsch tweeted that he fixed his dishwasher — which he'd been about to replace — with ChatGPT's help. The software thereby increased the country's real wealth while decreasing measured GDP.

His point: the headline economic indicator is structurally incapable of registering what actually makes people better off — the growth of knowledge.

Reposter DeryaTR calls this one of the most important takes on the AI era: billions are experiencing this uplifting in practice, which matters more than pace-versus-plateau doom talk.
