Dario Amodei: Slowing AI doesn't mean Anthropic will stop releasing advanced models

rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-09-14

On CBS Sunday Morning, Dario Amodei denied that slowing AI development means Anthropic will stop releasing more advanced models: "What it means is that we need to make sure that every generation of models that we release is properly tested."

On risks and benefits, Amodei shared personal context: his father died of hepatitis C when it was only 40% curable—a few years later a medicine raised that to 95%—and he himself survived early-stage cancer. He feels the weight of delivering AI's benefits while also reading threat reports daily about attempted misuse of models, and acknowledged the ridicule he faces over his safety stance.
