Salesforce gave up the screen: agents become first-class principals in the enterprise
sanjaykalra · x · 2026-09-14
Ahead of Dreamforce, Benioff's "the UI is the AI" signals Salesforce's pivot: agents authenticate as principals, inherit permission sets, and act on records directly instead of clicking through Lightning.
- The system of record stays closed: object model, field-level security, and audit trails remain the moat.
- Slack is the workflow layer: MCP Server and Real-Time Search API hand conversational context to external agents (Claude, Perplexity, Manus, Cursor) under the requesting user's permissions.
- Agents need not be Salesforce's: Agentforce Sales runs inside ChatGPT, Claude is Slack's default model with 37 prebuilt sales skills; 85% of enterprises already run 2+ agent orchestration platforms (avg 3.1).
- Caveat: most orgs carry 8-12 years of unaudited admin debt — this is a permissions problem before it's an AI problem.
