OpenMined's 'network sourced' AI: models as orderly clients of private repositories

OpenMined founder Andrew Trask argues the future of AI should resemble neither a single intelligence absorbing all world information nor today's legal-gray-area 'vacuuming up' of data. Instead AI should act as an orderly client to a vast network of private repositories that release insights under conditions their stewards define — 'network sourced' AI.
The piece outlines three architectures:
- The leveled world: every document, dataset and private communication folded into frontier model weights;
- The current gray-area paradigm;
- Network sourced: repository stewards control access conditions.
He argues this choice determines not just how AI works but what kind of information economy becomes possible.
