iamtrask: Open vs closed source isn't the issue — unilateral control of superintelligence is
iamtrask · x · 2026-09-14
Researcher iamtrask argues the open-vs-closed source debate misses the core AI safety issue: unilateral control. Closed-source AI is unilaterally controlled by one company, open-source by anyone with a copy, and rogue AI by itself. He claims 99.999% of the safety debate boils down to "who should unilaterally control superintelligence," and since nobody is trustworthy enough for that, the only answer is collective control — which he argues is safer, more accurate, and cheaper.
