Responding to Pessimists Archive, Yann LeCun reiterated that Dario Amodei claimed back in 2019 that GPT-2 was too dangerous to open source. "I made fun of them then. Everyone should make fun of them now."
Rob LeClerc welcomed the intervention, saying this is exactly when senior statesmen are needed to elevate sane discourse in the AI risk debate — the latest round in LeCun's long-running feud with Anthropic-style doom narratives over open-source risk.
