AI safety researcher: 'Pessimism is not decision-theoretically sound'

A researcher who skipped academia argues a tenure track would have forced him to chase publications on topics that barely matter and stretch his book a decade. Now that the technology is out, he says we must act on both safety and solving humanity's hardest problems: pessimism isn't decision-theoretically sound, and letting it take hold will create the doom we fear.
