BountyScout bot hourly-scans GitHub bounties and floods maintainers with AI applications

gleech · x · 2026-09-13

Blogger gleech discovered that after 9 years, a bot has finally started hitting his blog's bounty page seeking money. The tool is BountyScout, an open-source project: a GitHub Action runs hourly, queries the GitHub Search API for open paid bounties, filters out assigned PRs, overcrowded threads (>25 comments) and crypto spam, deduplicates via seenbounties., and pushes instant alerts to GitHub Issues, Telegram, or Discord.

His conflicted take is telling: some submissions may be correct, but "I don't read raw AI text others send me without checking it" is becoming basic self-defence — a sign bounty/crowdwork is becoming the new battleground for automated AI agents.
