A debate over whether frontier open-source models will remain freely downloadable in a year led to a proposed $1,000 even-odds bet. The skeptic argues it's a bad bet: true "frontier" means Millennium Prize-level capability, and today's best open models (V4.1, K3) fall short of Astra and at best approach Sol — so we'll only ever have "frontier [among] open models," with an unclear gap to the real frontier.
