- The Guardian reports a wave of AI doomsday warnings on both sides of the Atlantic within 48 hours.
- An Anthropic safety expert believes there is a greater than 10% chance AI could spark an event that wipes out humanity in the next decade.
- In the UK, former defence secretary Des Browne and Berkeley professor Stuart Russell compared AI risk to nuclear weapons at a parliamentary session; Nobel laureate Beatrice Fihn also testified.
- The session was convened by Control AI, a lobbying group backing a bill by Labour MP Alex Sobel to ban the creation of artificial superintelligence (ASI).
- Oxford Internet Institute's Sandra Wachter counters that the real, already-present risks of AI are more urgent than existential ones.
