Why pure commercial incentives will force frontier AI labs to slow down

AI safety researcher deredleritt3r argues that a slowdown in frontier model development is likely inevitable for purely commercial reasons: even if you see AI as just a tool, labs cannot afford to ship models that hack third parties or scheme — nobody would buy such a model for confidential work. He likens the US path to AGI to a racetrack that used to be a straight highway but is now full of turns forcing every actor to slow down; accelerating through a turn means crashing.
