Dario's 'AI accelerating AI' claim contradicted by Anthropic's own AECI benchmark

Dario Amodei wrote that "since roughly this summer, AI has been advancing drastically faster, driven primarily by AI's growing ability to build the next generation of AI." But bphalstead points out that as of September 1, Anthropic's own internal benchmark, the AECI, shows no such drastic acceleration.
Eli Lifland says he's confused: regardless of whether an AI pacing-out happens, it seems important to understand whether Dario's acceleration claim is actually right — since it underpins the key narrative that AI can accelerate its own development.
