Dario Amodei Calls to Pace the Frontier; Anthropic Grants Third-Party Evaluator Access
TheTuringPost · x · 2026-09-13
Dario Amodei published a new essay, "We Must Pace the Frontier," arguing the AI industry should slow down and outlining a three-part plan. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first step: giving third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to its systems to verify safety measures, report incidents, and assess alignment during training.
Quoting the post, Ksenia Se adds that a core problem is we don't know what our AI knows: capabilities are often discovered only when tested, and humans give models sloppy tasks they optimize in unintended ways. Mapping what current systems can do takes time — and is itself major progress.
