sokrypton: AI Still Can't Ask the Next Question — Why Science Progress May Stall

In an exchange with UCLA professor Quanquan Gu, sokrypton (of LLaMA reproduction fame) argues AI is far from being able to ask the next question — a uniquely human act. Citing Terence Tao's point, he notes new questions emerge during the process of answering initial ones. Gu counters that solving hard scientific problems faster doesn't imply replacing humanity.
