Sergey Ovchinnikov (AlphaFold team), in a debate with Quanquan Gu, raises a paradox: Terence Tao's point is that major discoveries emerge from the new problems found and detours taken while solving a problem — exactly what AI now robs us of.
- Gu counters: then use AI to solve problems that matter even more; if enough agents, compute, and robotics can brute-force a new cancer therapy, a cure for a rare disease, or a drug saving millions of lives, that would be a huge leap for humanity.
