Dario Amodei's new essay urges pacing AI frontier, pledges permanent third-party access

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a new essay, "We Must Pace the Frontier," arguing the AI industry should slow down, with a three-part plan. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first step: granting third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to its systems to verify safety measures, report incidents, and assess alignment during training.
Safety nonprofit Fathom commented that Dario, Sam Altman, and Elon Musk are converging on its long-pushed position: AI labs shouldn't be the sole judges of their own systems' safety, and Independent Verification Organizations (IVOs) should provide the outside check.
