Dario Amodei's 3,800-word essay calls for AI slowdown, warns of internet-takeover botnet risk

In a rare 3,800-word essay, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei calls for pacing frontier AI development:
- Pacing should limit ingredients going into frontier models: training compute, nature of training runs, and internal use of AI to improve AI (recursive self-improvement).
- He warns that in 6-12 months a swarm of AI agents could be capable of taking over the entire internet with a persistent botnet, potentially causing hundreds of billions of dollars in damage, growing further without guardrails.
- He wants rivals to negotiate safety rules with each other.
