A notable AI safety debate: @tszzl argued labs are running Jurassic Park — birthing a T-Rex for the first time in 70 million years, spending enormous sums on third-party assessments so later entrants only need to replicate proven safety for a 'Stegosaurus'.
Margaret Mitchell (ex-Hugging Face) pushed back: it's worse — we're giving the T-Rex laser eyes and fire breath, the cage is made of sticks, thousands are made at once, and no guards are on duty. The people best equipped to make it safe aren't being involved, she says, and the i's are not getting dotted.
