Cambridge's David Krueger proposes systematically dismantling the AI compute supply chain

Cambridge professor David Krueger proposes what he calls the simplest, most robust AI pause plan: systematically dismantling the compute supply chain so nobody can build more powerful AI, addressing both secret projects and concentration of power. He criticizes the documentary The AI Doc for framing solutions as a binary between surveillance and catastrophe, and argues the scaling paradigm's trillion-dollar hardware bet reveals a third path: removing advanced chips and fabs at the source. He also draws on MIRI Berkeley's proposal to cap aggregate compute and ban algorithmic-progress research.
