Medical AI startup Sophont announced a combined $9.22M pre-seed and seed round led by Kindred Ventures, with participation from Delphi Ventures, Upfront, AI ICONIC, and angels including Jeff Dean and Clement Delangue (via Factorial Capital).
Highlights from its first year:
- Released OpenMidnight pathology foundation model and Medmarks LLM evaluation suite
- Released CortexMAE brain MRI foundation model and Brainmarks evaluation suite
- Open-sourced the nanopath training framework
- Grew headcount to 5, adding two researchers
Its open-source artifacts are already used by companies including AstraZeneca and OpenAI, with major releases teased soon.
