Garry Tan: Most New YC Apps Are Domain-Specific AI Agents Built on Systems of Record
garrytan · x · 2026-09-13
YC President Garry Tan amplified a Grok explainer on two concepts: a system of record is the official ledger holding a business's key data, while a domain-specific harness is an AI agent trained for one job (sales, accounting) that reads the data, talks to people, books meetings, and updates records automatically.
Tan notes most new YC apps are now these job-specific robot helpers: customers will chat with agents instead of clicking through legacy screens — become the robot or watch others use your data and capture the value.
