Dario's 'We Must Pace the Frontier' essay: Anthropic opens employee-level access to third-party evaluators

Dario Amodei published a new essay, "We Must Pace the Frontier," arguing the AI industry should slow down and laying out a three-part plan. Anthropic is unilaterally committing to the first step: giving third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to its systems so they can verify adherence to safety measures, report incidents, and assess model alignment during training.
The proposal is drawing both support — the pace of progress itself is becoming a risk — and skepticism that industry-wide self-restraint is realistic.
