Sam Altman hints at imminent pact among leading AI companies to slow development and address safety risks

In an exclusive Fortune interview, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the AI industry must set aside egos and competition to address rapidly growing safety risks. Asked whether he'd sit down with Anthropic's Dario Amodei, Elon Musk, and Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis to craft a joint plan, he replied "I think that will happen," hinting that a pact among leading AI labs to collectively slow development and tackle safety concerns could be announced soon, while declining to preview the private discussions.
