Dario Amodei Calls to 'Pace the Frontier' as Anthropic Grants Third-Party Evaluators Permanent Access
aidan_mclau · x · 2026-09-12
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei published a new essay, We Must Pace the Frontier, arguing the AI industry should slow down and laying out a three-part plan for doing so.
As its first step, Anthropic is unilaterally committing to give third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to its systems, enabling them to:
- Verify adherence to the company's safety measures
- Report on incidents
- Assess models' alignment during training
Several industry figures publicly endorsed the proposal, saying the frontier urgently needs pacing and applauding Anthropic for taking the first step on its own.
