Dario Amodei Calls to Slow Frontier AI Progress, Commits to Third-Party Evaluator Access

In a new essay, We Must Pace the Frontier, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei argues the AI industry should deliberately slow the pace of frontier capability gains, laying out a three-part plan. He reiterates that AI could cure most major diseases within 5-10 years and boost growth, but warns of loss-of-control, cyberattack and bioterrorism misuse, and economic disruption, worsened by race-to-the-bottom incentives. As step one, Anthropic unilaterally commits to giving third-party evaluators permanent, employee-level access to its systems to verify safety measures, report incidents, and assess alignment during training.
