71 UK MPs back bill to ban superintelligent AI development, drawing sharp criticism

UK MP Alex Sobel, joined by 71 colleagues, is pressing the government to back his bill prohibiting the development of superintelligent AI and to champion an international agreement, framing it as leading on extinction risk while preserving strategic AI ambitions.
Quoting the post, James Wise called the stance irresponsible: blocking UK datacenters, model training and support for British AI companies while claiming the technology matters would leave Britain exporting data abroad and dependent on foreign tech — especially if neither allies nor foes honor any agreement and a 'kill switch' proves impossible.
