India's MedTech sector leans into AI as imaging, pathology and cardiology lead adoption
HealthcareLdr · x · 2026-09-12
A knowledge paper by FICCI and Praxis Global Alliance released at India Medical Device 2026 frames AI as India's MedTech inflection point: a population topping 1.47 billion, 230M+ people aged 60+ expected by 2036, and NCDs causing over 65% of deaths — against just 9.6 physicians and 15.9 hospital beds per 10,000 people.
- Adoption is most visible in medical imaging, radiology, pathology, patient monitoring and cardiology, plus AI-enabled ultrasound, ECG analysis and remote monitoring
- Surgical navigation and robotics are emerging in larger hospitals
- The core case for AI in India is closing expertise and access gaps, not novelty
