Columbia bans devices in core humanities seminars as educators debate AI-era teaching

Columbia University has prohibited electronic devices in all Literature Humanities and Contemporary Civilization discussion sections starting this fall, confirmed by a college spokesperson and 12 reviewed syllabi. Citing the news, RexDouglass argues educators should proactively prepare students for the AI era rather than rely on bans, and is collecting examples of institutions doing this well.
