Harvard researcher turned a fruit fly brain connectome into a Bitcoin trading bot

A Harvard researcher wired an actual fruit fly brain connectome into a neural network for Bitcoin trading. In a simulated account it grew $1M to $1.043M in 1.5 days, beating a fully engineered ML model in the test.

The open-source project "thebuzz" compares a biological network against Random Forest on Binance high-frequency data: 7 days of 1-second bars (12,400 samples), 80/20 train/test split, predicting next-second log returns with threshold-based signals. The connectome comes from FlyWire, mapped with Google's help. Scobleizer jokes the marketing gold rush for "fly brain builders" can't be far off.
