In an exchange with @zetalyrae, alexisGallagher argues that the number of people currently convinced we're in the AGI end times is comparable to many previous eras of similar belief — the belief itself is unusual, but the size of the believing crowd is fairly normal. He caveats that this doesn't make the worry unreasonable.
